| With fourteen UCI World Cup wins under his belt, Steve Peat is one of the best on the World Downhill (DH) circuit.
Steve was born in England in 1974 and began playing around on bikes when he was 2 years old, “…I had two older brothers and I used to chase them around over the jumps at the park.”
At 19 years old he started getting into mountain bike racing on a serious level and ditched his day job as a plumber to become a pro mountain biker. “The DH race scene has been a huge part of my life – I met my wife through racing DH and I have many friends on the circuit.”
“It feels like we are all just one big family…but we all want to win and beat each other. That’s what I love about it, it’s so competitive but at the end of a race weekend we can all go and have a laugh and a beer.”

Steve is now a proud father and races for the Santa Cruz Syndicate. He is also part-owner of specialist race clothing manufacturer Royal Racing and is passionate about youth involvement in the sport.
He is also a good friend of Johnny Waddell, an ambassador of Ride Calendar.
“I’ve had a few friends hurt over the years. Ride Calendar is a great way to let people know about the risks in the sport; these people are dealing with their injuries in whatever way they can and as best they can. I think it’s cool that we can all support them and help them deal with what lies ahead.”
